Ex Minister Musiliu Obanikoro Eyes Lagos Senatorial Seat
A grand plan is on.
And if all goes as planned, former minister Musiliu Obanikoro may transform a Senator of the All Progressives Congress party from Lagos state.
He will take over the seat of one of the supposed loyalists political leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not happy with.
The victim is accused of quietly working against the “private” and “public” interests of the national leader of the APC.
Obanikoro, the earmarked beneficiary though publicly claimed not to have defected to the APC is consistently seen in the company of the chieftains of the party in charge of Lagos State and the Federal Government.
Koro, as he is fondly called, was elected a Senator on the platform of the Alliance For Democracy in 2003, he later defected to the People’s Democratic Party to the consternation of his political associates and backers – which includes Asiwaju Tinubu.
He remained a passionate opposition of AD which transformed into Action Congress and later Action Congress of Nigeria led by former confidant and leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Koro became an Ambassador and later Minister while he remained in opposition.
The emergence of All Progressives Congress – a merger of ACN and other political parties – resulted in PDP’s losing power in a sweeping electoral victory by the APC.
Koro lost his position and status.
Doused with corruption allegations and diversion of electoral funds, he made peace with the Tinubu political family he was heavily at odds with.
Tinubu is a big stakeholder in the new party in charge of the federal government.
Though he insists he has not formally joined the APC, emerging details have it that Koro is on the verge of benefitting return to his original political family through a Senatorial ticket.
The reason for the development is said to have roots in Tinubu’s ongoing shake up and repositioning of his “key men”.
Tinubu is currently enmeshed in a major battle of influence and clout that would determine his political relevance in the nearest future.
