Troubles Hit Dapo Abiodun's Guber Ambition

If you want your dark secrets to be paraded all over town, seek an elective post is a popular saying in politics.

And this is the situation that is playing out in Ogun state as the battle to determine the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress becomes more intense.

Dapo Abiodun, the estranged friend of Governor Ibikunle Amosun is one of the leading candidates.

Though he faces fierce opposition from Governor Amosun, the front person at oil company Heyden is amassing great support from powerful interests out to diminish the influence of the governor.

Governor Amosun is seriously backing preferred aspirant Adekunle Akinlade to become the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun state.

Sources, however, disclosed to societynow.ng that the growing popularity Abiodun is being mightily threatened, especially amongst party members with an emerging story.Bimbo Ashiru

Abiodun is accused of retrieving car gifts he gave to people of his constituency after he failed to win an election.

According to the emerging story when Dapo Abiodun contested against Kashamu Buruji as Senator representing Ogun East, the Heyden oil boss doled out cars as gifts to different wards as part of campaign efforts.

“But when he lost, retrieved the cars and parked them at his house in Iperu, Dapo preferred to let the cars rot away in his house than to leave them for people he claimed betrayed him” societynow.ng learned.

Sources disclosed the story is fast gaining ground and portraying Abiodun as a man simple out for self.

More revelation has it that this trending story is given background with a related development.

According to the added details, before the car gifts incident, Abiodun attempted to become the governorship candidate of his party.

The gubernatorial aspirant was said to have “reached out to” delegates that would decide the fates of the contestants for the party ticket.

“He failed to get the gubernatorial ticket and went after all the beneficiaries to recoup his loss” societynow.ng learned.

Insiders disclosed these “instances” are being woven in manners that certainly do not help the ambition of Abiodun to become the gubernatorial candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress – in Ogun state – in the primary election scheduled for Saturday, September 29, 2018.

Sources close to the oil baron, however, claim Abiodun remains undeterred in moves to become party’s candidate.

But observers insist the “stories” are making him unpopular.

Abiodun goes into the race having to contend with the Akinlade, the preferred aspirant of Governor Amosun and Bimbo Ashiru, an old friend as “major threats”.

The National Working Committee of the APC has ruled that a Direct Primary, which gives room for all party members to vote, be adopted for Saturday’s primary but insiders claim Governor Amosun is still working on getting the party to tow the line of “delegates only” – indirect primary – which protects his interest.
